The Independent News
Art Director/Staff Photographer
The Independent News (now called InWeekly) was my first full time design job. The Pensacola, Florida based paper was equal parts A&E showcase and hard-hitting investigative reporting on local government corruption and injustice, constantly holding the powerful accountable in a way the local daily paper never seemed to.
I was responsible for cover design and full layout of the 60+ page paper each week. When I arrived, the paper had only an inexpensive, worn out 2-megapixel point and shoot camera to capture images, so I purchased a dSLR and a portable lighting rig and essentially learned photojournalism and studio and product photography on the fly. Photography remains a passion and craft of mine to this day.
